PROJECT 5 : Fantastic Final Projects and Where to Find Them / Isaac J. Diaz / Isometric City and Team Logo

For this assignment I was excited to pick the “Sports Team Logo” project as my 1st one as I have been interested in doing that kind of style of work for a long time. I have always appreciated a good team or organization logo with bold black outlines and simplistic shapes or concepts that can also contain depth and history. Always admired for example NBA team’s logos like the Chicago Bulls logo or the old Utah Jazz logos. They can either be timeless and become a staple in the fashion world or reinvent themselves to look cool for whatever design aesthetic is popular at the time. So I decided to tackle this assignment by asking any of my friends or close relatives if any of them were interested in a logo for any type of reason and to give me brief and short ideas, My older cousin became the most interesting prospect as he has a GitHub website for freelance programming projects he does for clients in his spare time, his input was short and to the point: guy that resembles me coding in a computer. He gave me liberty to choose colors and styles while also knowing it was going to be based on a “Esports Team” style. I followed suggestions from the video provided to create the background shield along with its shading and created the guy resembling my cousin with his glasses in a quick sketch. After some feedback he suggested of having the person’s face more visible and to make the perspective of the image more like a “front desk” view. Once I followed his advice and took the image further with the tools in Illustrator I became really happy with how the guy came out and with most of the shapes and colors, although I would like to comeback to it and play around with the complementing colors of the shield and outlines as I love the color orange but it was apparent my cousin does not after his feedback. Regardless of the fact he said he loved it and send me a picture the following day of his website utilizing the log

After being so inspired and driven to create and “Esports Logo” for my cousin’s website, I honestly was not looking forward to any of the other options available for the 2nd half of project 5. After taking a closer look and watching all the videos, it became clear to me how much I liked and was into the Isometric style, especially the skyscraper / city concept. I opened up Illustrator and began to follow the steps to create my own little piece of city land, but I became quickly frustrated as one the key elements of creating this type of art work is by utilizing a specific Isometric Grid to along with smart guides make the creation of shapes and drawings all aligned and well proportionate. Luckily, I was able to go deeper in the tutorial videos channel and find a guide to creating said grid. It was very complicated and seemed wonky but after everything was done, regardless of how much unnecessary space it took on my art board, it was going to help a lot in completing the job, and it did. I started creating a simple rounded building and repeated the process several times to get the hang of it, the creation of the windows were honestly the most challenging at times as most of the tools required for there creation were scattered all over menus in the top and not readily available. After failing to do them for over 30 minutes I finally catch on my mistakes and proceeded to make more interesting building shapes. Looking back at the video I found a specific photo that showcased a very busy skyscraper filled floating platform, I decided to take this image as my goal and main inspiration with the only main change being that my buildings were going to be lit from the inside. After battling with understanding more of the inner works of the Isometric perspective and utilizing the grind, I became more fascinated with creating more interesting shapes and a “late night downtown” atmosphere. I shaped a main road, I then put some streetlight poles and it came together in my mind. After not really feeling inspired to create any other style of projects for the 2nd part of this project, this Isometric type canvases have garnered a very special place in my mind and to discover more of the 3D / 2D aspects of illustrator, to the point where I can see myself creating another piece just for fun in my free time. Thank You

PROJECT 03: “WHATS IN YOUR HEAD?”

For this project I drew icons and symbols that represent victories or achievements in various games I play. Mainly the “victory screen” from League Of Legends or the “Head-shot” icon for the game Valorant. I spend most of my free time trying to excel and get better at this games to achieve victories that allow this icons to appear. In part this icons represent goals and hard work. I also decided to create a brush that simulates a group of neurons, in part once I do achieve to make this icons to appear on my screen they create burst of dopamine in my brain that create ties in my neurons to remember those feelings and keep chasing them.

CE22 : PS : ADJUSTMEN LAYER

In this exercise we learned how to utilize the adjustments layers. I found this picture of myself in my computer that was taken o in the Fort Worth Zoo and I played with both threshold and gradient map tools to achieve this “style”. I also took the freedom to use the erase tool to clear the background and give more emphasis.

CE21: PS : LAYER MASK

For this assignment I was excited to pick out two structures I have always found intriguing, The first one is a picture of a sort of “monument” done in my old home town of Bayamon in Puerto Rico. The structure is meant to be a representation and appreciation of the Northern Star and as such I decided to write the Spanish version of the name along the left side in a curved type. The second building is of Museum in Fort Worth and because of that I used the tools in Photoshop to create a more eye catching and bold type to represent the city. I also implemented background colors to giveit more patriotic colors along with a TX Star.

CE19 : PS : COMMAND SELECT AND TEXTURED TYPE

For this assignment I selected textures and illustrations that I thought would be interesting to play with and create this assignment with. I also selected type from the adobe’s library that I felt went accordingly with the selected texture or illustration, either being more relaxed and loose oor more squared or rigid.

PROJECT 02: AWESOME ALLITERATION

Awesome Alliteration. I had never really heard of the concept of alliteration so once I understood what it meant I came up with the simplest thing I could but that I could also have fun with Illustrating and making colorful. I really looked forward to adding sort of “Electric” style pieces to the type and I am very happy with how it came out. I also decided to select a very cool and complement also gave the theme of “movement”. Especially with hints of red that along with the word zap remind of “Shazam” or “Flash” from the DC super hero universe.
